National Shrimp Festival

This weekend marked the 37th year for the National Shrimp Festival! It has been a banner year with great crowds, lots of shrimp, super bands and arts and crafts to please everyone. With the economy like it is, this was a good chance for people to get out and enjoy the outdoors and have a little fun for not too much money.

Alabama Association of Realtors

Greetings from Florence, AL. I am attending a conference this week and the weather here in "up state" Alabama is really nice. I am attending some good technology classes and networking with other Realtors throughout the state. Everyone is talking about Hurricane Ike and its impact on the Texas coastline. Many prayers have gone out to those who will spend the next year putting their lives back together. Personally, I am very sympathetic as I have been there and it is a slow and painful process.... physically, mentally and financially.

Hurricane Gustav

Happy Labor Day! We were spared wretched weather as Tropical Storm, turned Hurricane Gustav continued on an anticipated path that has impacted the Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas coastlines. While our rivers will rise and the beach front property will experience some erosion, primarily we have been, and are currently getting gusting winds and rain. Since we were already planning to take today off, it has given me a good chance to plan out the upcoming week.

Tropical Storm Approaches

Tropical Storm Fay is hovering in Florida but is expected to SLOWLY make its way through coastal Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. While this is no laughing matter, we can't help but think this is going to bring some wind and much rain, but nothing more. When the local weather folks start using those old familiar terms like "hunker down" I can't help but smile. Those along rivers are at the greatest risk.
